Projects in Iraq (currently not active)

SPARK

SPARK provides scholarships for (vulnerable) students, mostly women and refugees, in the Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. Their goal is to create better access to the labor market and to provide the ultimate tools for the reconstruction of their home countries. A major emphasis is on entrepreneurship.

The semi-autonomous region in the north of Iraq has seen over 2.5 million Syrian and Kurdish people displaced within its borders as a result of recent wars. Young people are at risk of becoming radicalised due to the presence of the Islamic State and a lack of job or educational opportunities. SPARK’s programmes focus on vulnerable youth, countering violent extremism, providing higher (vocational) education scholarships and developing small- and medium sized enterprises.

Sounds of Change focuses its training specifically on creative leadership and everything that goes with it in regards to the entrepreneurship of the students. The basis for this is to create a safe space in which people dare to express themselves and can be seen and heard. The aim is to implement the mind set and working method of Sounds of Change in the culture of SPARK, creating safety and connection and with that room for creativity and ownership. Therefore, we are also training the staff members of SPARK, in order for them to co-facilitate the training with us, and to continue creating a safe space and guide the students in their learning journey.
