Sounds of Change was founded in 2017, with the aim of training changemakers in using the power of music to enable social change. We train adults and young people of all ages from local partner organisations, such as schools, NGO’s, and conflict-zone community centres, so they can enhance their work in education and Psycho-Social Support (PSS) with music.
Sounds of Change trains teams from partner organisations to use the power of music in their work with young people. During the training sessions our trainees learn how to:
Facilitate various music-based activities
Design creative workshops
Improvise and compose music as part of a group (creative music process)
Integrate musical activities in other educational and PSS programmes
Work with the Safe & Sound intervention.
Our on-site training courses are always 100% tailor-made to meet the needs of our partners. We generally serve two skill levels:
TOF - Training of Facilitators : individuals or team members are trained in using the power of music in their work with different target groups.
TOT - Training or Trainers: individuals or team members who are already experienced facilitators are trained to train other local facilitators themselves.
Sounds of Change has developed a professional online training method with an online library of musical exercises and instructional videos, which is accessible to the trainees.
This method is used if physical training is not possible (for example in a conflict zone or due to Corona measures) or simply as an introduction / top up to the on site courses.
Our methodology is implementable in education and PSS programmes. We support and coach our partner organisations in the development of their own programmes, to increase creativity and trauma sensitivity.
